This friends story of #WhyIChooseScentsy

I posted yesterday on Facebook that I was proud to be a direct selling professional. (it's posted below if you missed it).  I mentioned how this profession, whether it is done full time or part time, makes a difference in peoples lives.  Today I find this post written by a friend I have met because of the business we are in...  very special friendships just happen - you meet and find like minded people that push you up rather than bring you down.  I can't share her post directly, but will copy and paste it here so you can read another view of why we direct sales professionals love what we do.

I have been reflecting a lot lately on how Scentsy finding me and becoming a Scentsy consultant has enriched my life, and I feel the need to share that with you all. I became a consultant in September 2012 after being introduced to Scentsy the previous month. When I was introduced to Scentsy, I absolutely wanted nothing to do with it as I am highly allergic to so many things. I cannot stand the perfume departments in stores and most of the fragrance stores in the mall, well I can barely stand to get near them. I was reassured that I would love, Love, LOVE Scentsy, so I gave it a try. Actually, when I gave it a try the whole office I work for decided to give it a try too. When we received our order we were all so impressed and pleased, so much so that signing up as a Consultant sold itself. We were and still are hooked.

What happened after that I could never have expected. I never expected to actually 'work' my business. In my mind, I joined to get Scentsy for me and for my friends that I work with. I never expected that I would work parties and I would meet so many wonderful people that are not just my customers but are what I consider to be friends. And all the Scentsy consultants that are now what I consider family. I gained a family. As if that were not enough, I have been to places I have only dreamed of going. I never imagined traveling to Indianapolis or St. Louis. Indy was awesome and I was so moved at that first convention. The speakers were so empowering and it was very emotional.

Convention always is very moving and emotional for me. St. Louis was awesome and exploring new cities never gets old. In St. Louis, we took time before leaving and went to the top of the Arch! That was beyond amazing. The last convention I had the opportunity to go to was in Las Vegas and thanks to Scentsy and this wonderful opportunity I was able to visit the Grand Canyon. This was such a spiritually gratifying experience. This year is our convention is in Nashville and I have every intention of working my business to my best to go and explore another new city. I honestly know that without Scentsy, I would never have had these wonderful experiences!

Heidi and Orville have brought all this and so much more to my life by founding Scentsy and standing by our mission statement:

To bring value to the world by providing an industry leading, family-friendly business opportunity selling creative, artistic, high-quality products that warm the heart, enliven the senses, and inspire the soul.

I am forever grateful that Scentsy was introduced to me and I cannot wait to see where this journey is going to take me. Thank You Scentsy!!!!!

Just how broke are you?

I've had at least 3 people tell me this week how broke they were and how they don't have a dime to their name. Of course, I shared how I could help them if they wanted to join me in Scentsy.  Then I hear the next line, they couldn't ....they are "not a sales person" or "I can't sell anything".
Well I have a news to share with you:
"I don't want to do the business side with Scentsy. I'm not a sales person." However, I do share experiences and like talking to people, posting on Facebook and answer questions when people ask.  I know you do too.

1. Have you ever shared a Coke can with your name on it or their name on it... and maybe that others to look for a Coke can with a special name on it?
-SOLD-
2. Have you posted a picture of a delicious meal item from a restaurant that caused any of your friends to go try it for themselves?
-SOLD-
3. Have you ever shared the latest book that you read that caused any of your friends to download it or rush to Barnes and Noble?
-SOLD-
4. Have you ever seen a movie and loved it so much that you shared it with your friends family that caused them to take their entire family to see it?
-SOLD-
5. Have you every gotten or shared a great deal at a local store... a cheap discount? You couldn't wait to share it with your friends so they could take advantage of the savings?
-SOLD-
I've done all these things, my Facebook page is full of them.

The only difference is...
We didn't get paid for those referrals.
Coke got paid.
The restaurant got paid.
Barnes and Noble got paid
The movie theatre got paid.
The local store got paid.
We sell and share every day, in one way or another. Don't sell yourself short, share your story! Why not get paid to help people feel awesome and reach their goals?

It's that simple, what do you have to lose?

Calgary Flames's Dennis Wideman Earns A New Nickname

Calgary Flames's Dennis Wideman had his 20 game suspension reduced by an arbitrator to 10 games, after he had served 19 of those 20 games. The change means, that means he will get paid for 9 of the games he missed, about a quarter million dollars.  That's wrong. The arbitrator was wrong, in my opinion.   I don't think he served long enough.  Wideman should have gotten a minimum of a season suspension, all to be served after the unsuspecting lineman he cross checked returns to work.  I don't care what his previous record was.  He two hand cross checked an official in the back and has taken him out of his job because he was having a hissy fit!

ESPN Senior Writer Scott Burnside said it a lot more eloquently than I did.  You can read what he wrote by clicking
HERE.
When you watch the v
ideo, remember, Wideman defended his collision saying couldn't avoid it (the collision) with linesman Don Henderson. Nevertheless, he had enough time to lift both hands up and shove his stick across the linesman's back and knock him to the ice.

In the picture sequence, you can see Wideman brought his stick up just before he takes aim at the linesman.  If you go back to the video in the Burnside article, watch how after he gets up from being crushed himself, his stick is down...  then he bangs it on the ice as many hockey players do when they are pissed about something...  then he raises it as he lines up Henderson.  Note how he immediately looks up (shot 4) at the over ice screen to watch the replay, again, as most players do after plays that make the wide screen.  He knew what he was doing....  having a tantrum because he got crushed himself moments earlier..
As of today, according to Bleacher Report, NHL linesman Don Henderson reportedly continues to suffer from concussion symptoms after being hit from behind in late January. There's no timetable for his return to the ice. He's not working, he's losing money... Wideman should be out as long as he is, then give him the suspension, and, WIdeman's lost salary should go to cover Henderson's cost and loss. See http://bleacherreport.com/…/2617948-don-henderson-injury-up…

Again, the victim (Henderson) is the one losing here.  Wideman's actions are a poor example for youth players, in any sport.  He's earned a new nickname in my book....  OJ.

Figure it out.

A Childhood Experience Relived

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to experience a childhood memory I haven't thought of in years, it was awesome!  It was a trip down memory lane to remember how simple, carefree and fun times were back then, some 50 plus years ago.

I grew up in the country, in upstate New York.  In the pre-teen years, we rode our bikes down county roads, played in the surrounding woods, swam in the local creeks we had dammed up to make a swimming, and fishing, hole.  Down the road from my house there was a house that sat back in from the road, owned by a couple, the Nettleton's.  They were fairly new to our part of the country, I remember us kids riding our bikes to their house and watching them move in and asking all kinds of questions that were probably none of our business, we were just neighborhood, nosy kids being kids.

Mr. Nettleton was a fisherman, that's all needed to know.  When we knew he was fly fishing in the creek (that ran through their property), we quickly rode home, grabbed our poles and interrupted his quiet time.  He taught us a lot of good things about fishing...  like being quiet and how to approach the fishing holes so we didn't spook the fish.  What I remember most about Mrs Nettleton was that in the winter months, especially when we helped her shovel snow, she always invited us in for hot chocolate.  Since I didn't like hot chocolate, I always got coffee!  Very cool.  They were an amazing couple.

Fast forward to this week.  I was at a customers home in the Quabbin Reservoir region, where the roads full of bumps and pot holes, away from everything.  The neighbors homes were across a farm field or down the road a ways...  county living as it was suppose to be.  As I sat at a table near the front door work on a cell phone repair, there came a knock at the full windowed door next to me.  I looked up to see a young boy smiling and waving to me.  My customer, Lynn, came to open the door and let him in, I kept working and listening to them.  The conversation was so cute and so memorable.

I discovered that this was a neighborhood boy that was just out playing with a couple friends and helping
another child, a 6 year old girl learn to ride her bike better before they went off road to ride on the paths through the woods.  We could see the other two kids on their bikes waiting out at the end of the driveway, maybe 50 yards away.  Lynn knew one of the other kids but didn't know the third.  I really smiled when the youngster really came around to why he was there (it so reminded me of what we use to do when we stopped to see Mrs. Nettleton).  He says, we were a little tired and thirsty, so I thought we should stop and ask you for a drink.  Sure Lynn says, what would you like?  Well, can we go out and get a juice?  Apparently, there was a refrigerator in the garage with a variety of drinks.  With a smile, Lynn told him to help himself.  With a thanks, he was off.

I was telling Lynn how it reminded me of my youth and stopping to see the Nettleton's when soon there was another knock at the door.  The youngster sadly said, there are only 2 juices, do you have anything else, there are 3 of us.  I smiled as I listened to her trying to satisfy them with cups so they could share the 2 drinks.  It was a cool trip down memory lane.

If you can't find it on Google....

I've said for a long time, if you can't find what you are looking for on Google, you probably really don't need to know it.  While I don't know if that is really a true statement or not, I think at least in a majority of cases, it is.  I put it to the test today, talk about a time killer.

Do you ever watch Live with Kelly and Michael on CBS weekday mornings?  It's one of the things I can do without a DVD now that I'm retired.  One of the things they do every day is play "Travel Trivia".  If you're not familiar, they make a phone call to a contestant, and ask them a question about something that was said on the previous show that aired.  Today's question was something like: "on yesterday's show, what actor did we say had been made into a chocolate bunny for Easter"?

The contestant has 20 seconds to answer and only the first answer counts.  I didn't watch yesterday show, so, I tested my Google theory.  I Googled the question.  Low and behold, on top of the list was the closed caption transcript of yesterday's show.

A quick click on the link and a Ctrl-F (a standard shortcut to Find something on a page) and I begin typing chocolate, although I only got the first few letters in and I found the answer. I'm thinking it all took less than 5 seconds from the time I entered the Google search to the answer, Benedict Cumberbatch, who ever he is. Of course, I would have lost if I was called since I didn't think of this until well after the 20 seconds had elapsed, a touch of hindsight. I'll be ready next time.

The bottom line, my Google theory proved true, at least in this case and secondly, if you are ever called to play Travel Trivia, have the closed caption transcript open on your computer before you are asked the question, bon voyage!
